THANK YOU FOR VISITING!

We are a Large Animal Emergency Evacuation Program approved for operation in El Dorado County.

Please join us in our endeavors. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help evacuate animals during disasters, such as fires or floods.

On our Calendar page, you'll find important dates, and we try to keep them posted in the columns for easy viewing.

On our Programs pages, you will find more about our clinics, training classes, and emergency simulations. You can also learn about our many volunteer and donor possibilities, ranging from direct rescue operations, to clerical tasks and fundraising.

Time is always valued.  If you would like to help and cannot find the time, please make a donation.  Our funding is strictly from fundraisers and donations.  Your check, payable to Sclar will be greatly appreciated.  Please mail any donations to us at PO Box 445; Somerset CA 95684

Our training continues and we continue to urge you to remain fire safe throughout the year.

Mission Statement

We are a group of trained, organized volunteers who will do our best to help evacuate animals in time of disaster. Fire personnel fight fires, saving human lives and preserving property. Usually, they do not have the time, the training, or the wherewithal to evacuate animals. This is where we come in. Our purpose is to help save the animals.

What do we do?

Functioning in a disaster under the Office of Emergency Services (OES), and Animal Services, our membership's Registered Disaster Service Workers will endeavor to evacuate animals from areas in danger.  We are dispatched and directed through Animal Services.

Although we began as a large animal evacuation group, we soon realized we could not leave other pets behind if we had the opportunity to remove them. Our trailer teams will do their best to remove all pets from danger.

How to Sign Up...

Member information forms are posted in the Forms section. Please feel free to print, complete and mail to us or bring to a meeting (see Calendar for regularly scheduled meetings).    Our meetings are the 2nd Thursday of each month.  Plan on attending, either as our guest and potential member or if you're just curious.

Are you a new owner of a horse or other large animal?

Our membership includes experts on just about any large animal, including emus. They are glad to help out with explaining some of the basics about animal care. Most new horse owners, for instance, do not know about recommended worming or shoeing schedules. Please let us help!

Our annual clinic,  HORSE BASICS & BEYOND is tailored to provide basic horse ownership information with more detailed lectures and exhibitions for the long time horse owner.  We're never too old to learn.  This is an annual fall event - this year it will be November 7, 2009 at the Placerville Fairgrounds.   RAIN OR SHINE, everything is either indoors or under cover.   We will have lectures indoors, exhibitions outdoors, raffles, prizes, vendors and refreshments.  Look for our beautiful posters in September.    Additional web information a little later in August.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!!

iGive.com
Is a "portal" through which you can access over 680 online stores.  Participating stores give rebates to Sclar based on qualified purchases.  All you need to do is register with iGive.com (it's free!) and "enter" the online stores through the portal.  It doesn't cost you a thing!!

iSearchiGive.com
Once you've registered with iGive.com and selected Sclar as your designated "cause", you can also earn money by performing qualified online searches.  Similar to other search engines, you simply type in what you want to search, i.e., "geocaching".  For every search conducted in this manner, a few pennies will accumulate in the Sclar account.  All you need to do is start your search through iSearchiGive.com

Country Supply.com
When ordering equine supplies online, consider Country Supply.  They provide rebates to Sclar based on qualified purchases.  It doesn't cost you a thing!  Simply use the "Country Care" code of "Sclar" when making your purchase.

Gently Used Items
Donations of gently used, saleable items are always appreciated, as well as volunteer members to staff our booths.  Keep Sclar in mind when you're doing your spring cleaning.  We participate in the Diamond Springs Labor Day Bazaar.
Each year we also participate in a local tack swap.  In addition to needing unused halters and lead ropes for our evacuation efforts, we also sell gently used farm/ranch items at the tack swap.  Your donations would be much appreciated.
Contact us at (530)Sclar if you are able to make any donations.
